Including a leaf with emendations and instructions to the binder. Complete with 77 engraved plates, some folding, each with a tissue guard. Also with a loose leaf advertising the publication of the second series. Recently re-cased into original green half straight-grained morocco, with gilt titles and blind decoration to spine, and plain pasteboards. All edges untrimmed. A lovely clean, untrimmed copy, showing only minimal spotting and offsetting from plates. Binding shows moderate wear, and some toning and rubbing to spine. Restored to an attractive, robust condition. Very good. A seminal publication on the archaeology and architecture of ancient Pompeii, which had been extensively excavated during the Napoleonic occupation of Italy.
