On May 9 1763 an Ottawa Indian named Pontiac directed an attack by his warriors against the British Fort at Detroit to punish . the British for the injustices he felt they had done his people and to reinstate the French who had formerly controlled the Great Lakes area. The war quickly spread from Detroit until it engulfed almost the entire Indian world. Its effect were to change forever the relations between the Indian and the English-speaking white man between England and her North American colonies and betweeen the people on the frontier and the inhabitants of the farms and town of the 13 colonies. .
