About This Item
New York; (1983): Random House. First Edition. Octavo. First printing, 399pp. When the attorney for Dr. Edward A. Kantor for the claim that he had supplied the drugs that began to cause Barbara Hutton's rapid decline, when, in fact, Dr. Kantor was only 14 in 1943. Random House recalled 58,000 copies to be pulped. Each Bookshop was instructed to return the copies or else be liable for a lawsuit from Dr. Kantor's attorney. This copy has the original Western Union Mailgram dated December 20, 1983 laid in from Random House to the Walden Bookshop instructing them for an immediate recall or else they would be subject to any suit for defamation by Dr. Kantor. Unfortunately, the recall came too late as the Beverly Hills Crown Bookshop reported all its copies had already been sold out. Besides the wrong date, there were at least eight other errors including the acknowledgement claim Dr. Kantor was interviewed but he had not. Bound in 1/4 black cloth over maroon paper covered boards with author initials stamped in gilt, spine lettering gilt. A near fine copy in, unclipped very nice pictorial dust jacket save for a crease on the rear flap.
