The scarce third issue of Popular Flying in original Howard Leigh illustrated cover. Edited by W.E Johns, with significant contributions by him. Includes the third appearance of Biggles in the story "J-9982" (under the pen name 'William Earle', with illustrations by Howard Leigh) as well as the autobiographical section "My Most Thrilling Flight - W.E Johns" with printed photograph of him as a Prisoner of War during WW1. Near Very Good condition with minor edge dusting/wear and holes where the rusty staples have been removed. No inscriptions.
William Earl Johns (5 February 1893 – 21 June 1968) was an English pilot and writer of adventure stories, usually written under the pen name Captain W. E. Johns. He is best remembered as the creator of the ace pilot and adventurer Biggles.
