Synopsis

In Alice Walker's Possessing the Secret of Joy , we meet Tashi Johnson again (she first appeared in The Color Purple ). The young tribal African woman is now living in North America. Now severely traumatized, she spends the rest of her life trying to reconcile her heritage with her experience as a modern woman in America.
