During his career, he became prominent in thyroid surgery. President of the Manitoba Medical Association in 1923 and of the Canadian Medical Association in 1941, he was also a founding member of the American Goitre Association, becoming its president in 1928 and a founding member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as an early diplomat of the American Board of Surgery. From 1941 to 1945 he was consulting surgeon for the Canadian Army."
