London: Trubner And Co., 1863. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 1863 First UK Edition with Notes by Richard F. Burton and with 31 pages of Trubner ads at the end (NOT the remainder issue). Original purplish cloth with debossed pattern decorations front and rear covers, gilt decoration of rider with a rifle on a horse front cover, Rebound with remnants of original spine cloth relaid to new spine, original boards, new EPs. The covers are relatively clean with general rubbing, a tiny 3mm diameter spot above the front cover gilt decoration, relaid spine cloth very faded, contents fresh and clean with no foxing, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, solid binding, complete with all printed pages and folding map. The folding map is complete and sound with only a 1cm split in margin area of one fold. Very uncommon in the first UK issue with the gilt decorated front cover binding. The book measures 197mm tall x 140mm, and has 251 pages, b/w frontispiece engraving with tissue guard (image matches that on the front cover of the book), 12 in-text b/w illustrations, folding map at rear before the ads section.
