About This Item
A lovely copy inscribed by the author on the title page and protected in an archival cover. This book is inscribed to Burt Heward, a former colleague at the Ottawa Citizen who was in 1989 the books editor at the paper when he interviewed Irving and wrote a feature story about him and Owen Meany (attached as a photo). A patron of the arts in Ottawa, Burt passed in 2022 at age 83, leaving behind a large library. He was a journalist and editor for 40 years, most of the time at the Citizen. A copy of his feature on Irving will be included with the book.
Synopsis
A Prayer for Owen Meany is a novel by American writer John Irving, first published in 1989. It tells the story of John Wheelwright and his best friend Owen Meany growing up together in a small New England town during the 1950-60s. Owen is a remarkable boy in many ways; he believes himself to be God's instrument and journeys on an extraordinary path of death, birth, love, disclosure and sacrifice.
Reviews
Great book. In Irvings usual style, it tells the story of a person with faults interspersed with hilarious irreverent interjections. I’ve read it several times and still see something new every time.
