About This Item
Chatto & Windus, 1910 VERY RARE INDEED TO FIND A COPY WITH UNCUT PAGES! Title with portrait of Stevenson, each page printed from the superb calligraphy of Alberto Sangorski. Gorgeous use of gold and full colour throughout. The gilt borders were designed to imitate medieval manuscripts. This is a second impression printing in London, by Chatto & Windus, 1910. The calligraphy, book design, and illumination was executed by the well-known English illuminator and miniature painter Alberto Sangorski (1862-1932), who specialized in illustrating religious texts. The reproductions are by the Graphic Engraving Company. The introduction by Mrs. R.L. Stevenson is printed in red. The prayers are in black with red initials, each starting with a large illuminated initial. The paper jacket is now protected and has been repaired. Stevenson (1850-1894) lived in Vailima, West Samoa, where the whole household joined each evening for a prayer session. UNCUT PAGES!. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good.
