Ure Smith, Sydney, 1945. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Ordinary. 112 pages, list of plates, introduction by the editor. Illustrated frontispiece, being a reproduction of William Dobells' " Street Singer ". The text is illustrated with 17 coloured photographs and 120 black and white photographs. Gray-green coloured cloth with abstract " stick " design on the front and back panels. Green writing on the spine. A little fading to the extreme edges of the spine and there are some dust marks to both the top and bottom book edges. Foxing to the top paper edge. Plain text dust wrapper with brown, white and beige background and back and white writing on the front panel and black on the spine. The dustwrapper is rubbed and with heavily affected by sun causing darkening of the paper. There is chipping, with loss, to the top and bottom dustwrapper edges and a little rubbing to the dustwrapper corners. A small spot of insect activity can be seen on the lower left hand corner of the back panel. The browning and darkening of the dustwrapper is most pronounced on the verso. The book is a catalogue of 24 artists ( including three American war artists ] and a representation of their most recent work, to time of publication. Artists include: William Dobell, Donald Friend, Lloyd Rees, Margaret Preston, Russell Drysdale etc. This is the first Australian edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
