About This Item

Cambridge: The Belknap Press of Harvard University Press, 2016. Hardcover. Fine/fine. Six volumes (all published to date), quarto size, approx. 2674 total pp. Jane Austen (1775-1817) needs no introduction, as she is likely the most wildly popular female author of the late18th to early-19th centuries, with her novels having been reprinted countless times as well as adapted for screen, stage, and television.

This set of six (of her seven) novels "open up facets of the novel[s] for even devoted Janeites while extending an open hands to less experienced readers..." (n.b., quote from jacket flaps). It appears as though Harvard Univ. Press does not plan to issue an annotated version of "Lady Susan", her final novel (and which she did not submit for publication).

___DESCRIPTION: All six volumes bound in full cloth of varying colours, gilt lettering and press device stamped onto the spines, silk moire-like endpapers, the volumes are replete with illustrations (most in colour) bringing the world of Jane Austen to vivid life, the pages arranged with the notes on the outer margins for easy reference as one reads the text; all volumes quarto size (9 3/4" by 9 1/4"), dates and pagination are: Pride and Prejudice, pub. 2010, 443 pp.; Persuasion, pub. 2011, 343 pp.; Emma, pub. 2012, 560 pp.; Sense and Sensibility, pub. 2013, 433 pp.; Northanger Abbey, pub. 2014, 363 pp.; and Mansfield Park, pub. 2016, 532 pp. All volumes in illustrated paper dust jackets, "Persuasion" with a glossy finish and the other five in matte finish, all volumes unclipped (although unpriced), summaries on the front flaps, short bio of editor on the back flaps.

___CONDITION: Volumes fine overall, with clean boards, straight corners without rubbing, strong, square text blocks with solid hinges, the interiors clean and bright, and the set entirely free of prior owner markings; a few corners gently bumped but not rubbed and a hint of dustiness to the top edges of a few text blocks, else fine. The unclipped dust jackets range between near fine and fine, all complete and without tears or soil, a few with exceedingly minor edgewear.

___POSTAGE: Please note that this set is excessively heavy and additional postage will apply; please inquire for details.
