Quarto (10" x 7 1/2") bound in original publisher's brown cloth with gilt lettering to spine in original jacket. First edition. On the 27th of June, 1968, during the Cultural Revolution, great excitement was created througho0ut China by the discovery of the Man Ch'eng tombs - an excavation that ranks high among the great archaeological finds of this century. In these huge tombs, carved out of living rock, were found the bodies of Liu Sheng, a prince of the Han Dynasty (205 BC - 220 AD), and his consort, Princes Tou Wan. The bodies had been covered from head to toe in suits of finely carved, interlocking jade pieces, held together by wires of gold and silver - figures of exquisite beauty and craftsmanship. Condition: Page ends soiled, light shelf wear. Jacket edge wear with some closed tears else a very good copy in a very good to fine jacket.
