Green cloth pictorially stamped in gilt; t.e.g. 24 b&w plates with tissue guards. Spine ends and corners lightly rubbed, front free endpaper slightly discolored, hinge cracked but still tight, minute traces of foxing, else a clean, tight, surprisingly bright copy.
First edition. A collection of 27 tales from the great romances of English literature set during the reigns of 27 English Monarchs – from Harold to Victoria – wonderfully captured in H.S. Banks' intricate plates.
