Paris: Librairie L. Conquet, 1889. Octavo. Xxviii,345pp. Original watercolor illustration on half-title, signed by F. Bourdin. Portrait and 12 plates after Jules Garnier, etched by Lamotte. This is one of 150 large paper copies on Velin du Marais, of a total of 500 copies. Signed L.C. (L. Conquet) under the limitation number. Preface by Anatole France. "Belle edition recherchee en grand papier" ("Beautiful, sought-after edition on large paper.") (Carteret 1946: IV, p. 223.) Bound by Petrus Ruban (1851-1929) in full royal blue levant morocco with triple line borders on both covers; elaborately gilt compartments between raised bands on spine. Intricately gilt inner dentelles. All edges gilt.. A unique copy, with the original signed watercolor by Bourdin. A light surface scratch on the leather on rear board and faint rubbing to outer hinges, otherwise fine.
