Bright, crisp, clean, matt, monochrome photographic illustrated dw/dj panels with capitalised,glossy,black-lettered title and capitalised, red gilt-lettered author name to front; spine/backstrip with white strip panel with similalrly coloured+lettered title+author name as front's and publisher's capitalised, black initialled lettered name to foot of same, rear panel of dw/dj withsimilar monochrome photographic illustration as front and brown+black lettered synopsis and critics' similarly coloured lettered reviews.Negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners, with miniscule bumping at head of spine with reciprocal creasing – but no nicks, tears or splits present. Top+fore-edges bright crisp, clean without foxing/spotting; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound – no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips – appears unread, apart from my own collation.Publisher's bright, crisp, unblemished,sharp-cornered,original plain dark brown cloth boards with bright, crisp, blocked gilt lettering to spine/backstrip,and immaculate repeated monochrome photographic illustrated endpapers.UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,3-277pp [paginated] includes Pts 1-5 comprising 12,24,13,13 and 9 chapters respectively and an Epilogue; plus [unpaginated] half-title with potted biography of author and a list of his published works to its reverse,a title page, information on titles in the cycle of novels in the literary universe of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books,a title separator page,a preamble, and individual monochrome photographic illustrated Pts and Epilogue separator pages. Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional and particularly internally,is also in an exceptional condition/ state of preservation and presentation, for a book of its 10+ year-old age. It is only the faults described that prevents a slightly higher grading overall.Despite that,it really is still an exceptional, exemplary example for its cleanliness, brightness and lack of other detracting faults. The third title in the cycle of novels that began with 'THE SHADOW OF THE WIND.' and 'THE ANGEL'S GAME.' 'THE PRISONER OF HEAVEN.' returns to the world of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books and the Sempere & Sons bookshop. It begins just before Christmas in Barcelona in 1957,one year after Daniel and Bea from 'THE SHADOW OF THE WIND' have married. They now have a son, Julian, and are living with Daniel's father at Sempere & Sons. Fermin still works with them and is busy preparing for his wedding to Bernarda in the New Year. However something appears to be bothering him. Daniel is alone in the shop one morning when a mysterious figure with a pronounced limp enters. He spots one of their most precious volumes that is kept locked in a glass cabinet, a beautiful and unique illustrated edition of The Count of Monte Cristo. Despite the fact that the stranger seems to care little for books, he wants to buy this expensive edition. Then, to Daniel's surprise, the man inscribes the book with the words 'To Fermin Romero de Torres, who came back from the dead and who holds the key to the future'. This visit leads back to a story of imprisonment, betrayal and the return of a deadly rival.
