About This Item
This scarce, antiquarian First Edition has been well used. Its cloth cover is intact but edge-worn, its pages are pencil marked in places and some with creases and small tears, and its binding is loose. Some signatures have been secured with tape. All pages are readable and contain many clear engravings and photographs. With scholarship of general appeal, the book has remained in print since 1903 but with changes and additions by others. Reprints sell for from $18 to over $100; 1903 editions sell for from $2 (loose and mildewed) to $50 for copies in somewhat better condition than this copy Though loose, this book holds together and remains readable. Index (12 pp) Contents: 1. The Family, 2 The Name, 3, Marriage and Position of Women, 4. Children and Education, 5. Dependents: Slaves and Clients, 6. The House and Furniture, 7. Dress and Ornaments, 8. Food and Meals, 9. Amusements, 10. Travel and Correspondence, 11. Sources of Income and Means of Living, 12. Burial Places and Funeral Ceremonies.
