An anthology of American proletarian fiction, poetry, reportage, drama and literary criticism, with a 20- page introduction by Joseph Freeman. The writings date predominantly from the period 1930-1935. Many previously appeared in the pages of the New Masses, New Republic, Partisan Review, Dynamo, Anvil, Left-Front, and elsewhere. Each section includes a preface of a few pages which provides some context and pointers towards additional authors of interest.
