About This Item

London / Chicago: Edward Stanford / Bureau Printing Company, 1870. First American edition. Hardcover. Very good. 1870 1st ed. 8vo. 117pp. Original green cloth binding with blind stamped decorations and gilt lettering on front board. Not in Chicago Pre-Fire Imprints. Sir Sullivan was a staunch protectionist who strongly opposed free trade. He examines "unfair" competition, labor, corn, cotton, trade statistics, and treaties with the French to make his arguments. Binding has minor wear and contemporary owner's bookplate on front pastedown. Near fine.
