About This Item
Providence: Carter and Wilkinson, 1798. Hardcover. See Description. Fifth Revision. 8vo. 652p. Bound in full period sheep with gilt spine label. Binding is sturdy and attractive but reveals the usual signs of rubbing, wear, spots of discoloration, etc. The tail cap of the spine and a couple small spots along the outer joint are carefully repaired/restored. Interior pages show some age toning, scattered foxing, and mild damp staining. Several leaves display crease marks. The inside front cover and front fly-leaf contain a name and date "Peleg Almys book 1798." This is probably Peleg Almy (1761-1854) who was a resident of Rhode Island. This is the fifth revision of the Rhode Island laws. The first edition which appeared in 1719 was the earliest printed edition of Rhode Island law. [Sabin 70626].
