Boston, MA: Thayer and Eldridge, 1860. Hardcover. FAIR. Tight, foxing throughout (does not affect readability), age tanning of exterior page edges, slight tilt to spine. Brown cover with T&B imprint on front and back covers, imprinted banding on spine. Gilt title on spine is slightly faded. Frontispiece and original tissue are tanned. Covers are rubbed through to boards at corners. Bottom of spine is softened and disintegrating, top is missing. From the author's preface (Written on Dec 25, 1859 about the raid conducted on Oct 16, 1859.) "I think that John Brown did right in invading Virginia and attempting to liberate her slaves. I hold God in infinitely greater reverence than Congress, and His holy laws than in its enactments..." 408 pages
