New York: Slote, Woodman & Co, 1878. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Punch, Brothers, Punch! And Other Sketches". Published by Slote, Woodman & Co. in 1878. Measures 6-¼" x 4-½". First edition, first issue with Mark Twain's name printed in Roman (later issues had a facsimile signature); With page 91 line 4 from bottom reads "health offi...could" rather than health officer's funeral could; With thirteen lines of text on page 101 and no postscript. In the first issue binding with undecorated cream-coated end papers, and on the rear pastedown an illustration of the scrap book measuring about 2" x 2-?", whereas in later printings the scrap book measures about 3" x 5" (BAL 3378). Very good condition in the publisher's original green cloth binding with black illustrations on the front board and gilt lettering on the spine. Bumping to the corners and some wear to the cloth at the spine ends. Two crease marks on the front board. Please view the many other rare titles available for purchase at our store.
