Quarto, [vi], 162 pages plus 136 pages of plates (including illustrations from photographs, figures, diagrams and plans). Papered boards; small name-stamp on the front free endpaper; a fine copy with the fine dustwrapper. The Qasr Ibrim site in Lower Nubia has been excavated by the Egypt Exploration Society since 1959. It has been a significant site for the discovery of 'many medieval Nubian, Greek, Arabic and Ottoman Turkish manuscripts on parchment and paper (one of the largest and latest papyrus scrolls is a magnificent decree now in the Nubia Museum, Aswan)' (University College London, online).
