About This Item
TRITON PRESS U.S.A., 1976 The stunning Andrew Wyeth Metropolitan Exhibition in 1976 was one of the great successes in that gallery's history. After the close of the show it was agreed to issue a special Collotype of one painting, the image that had been most requested; THE QUAKER. Andrew Wyeth considered this to be one of his best temperas, and it certainly received the approval of critics and the public. Thomas Hoving, the Director of the Met, worked with Harry Lerner of Triton Press to bring about a faithful image of this never reproduced work, and Wyeth agreed to approve every stage. 'The final result has my complete approval' declared the artist at the end of the long process, and each print was then fitted into a scrupulously exact copy of the original frame. There is a discrete blind embossed Triton logo in the lower left corner of the print, which guarantees the absolute authenticity of the print. This particular example has been carefully stored in a low light environment, and it is magnificent. When a rare copy of this extraordinary issue comes to an auction house, in its original frame, it achieves a very high price indeed, much more than is being asked here. 'The Quaker' is an exceptional work, and a very exacting process has ensured all the subtlety of the original tempera is captured. THIS PRINT, IN THE SPECIAL FRAME, HAS ACHIEVED VERY LARGE SUMS AT AUCTION, THE HIGHEST FOUR TIMES THE PRICE OF THIS ONE. On the back of the picture is the ORIGINAL PRINTED DESCRIPTION about how this beautiful subtle print was achieved. Please ask about the cost of carriage of this considerable package. Costs will depend on destination of course, but for American or other overseas purchases the final shipping cost will have to be at the buyers expense.
