(Zurich): (Ernst Scheidegger), (1970). First Edition. Softcover. Fine in a Very Good clamshell box with staining on the front cover. Hans Erni. Folio (11-1/4" x 17") consisting of loose sheets in original white parchment wrappers, the upper wrapper embossed with a design from an original bronze by the artist, housed in a parchment-backed woodgrain clamshell box. A fable (from the series NIGHTMARES OF EMINENT PERSONS) by English philosopher Bertrand Russell, handwritten and reproduced in facsimile, illustrated by the Swiss artist Hans Erni and SIGNED by both of them. Illustrations include an etched portrait of Bertrand Russell, embossed title and initials, 3 double-page lithographed plates and other illustrations, one full-page, by Erni. Of a total edition of 267, this copy is marked "H. C." and is on Rives paper as is the majority of the edition. Enhanced with an ORIGINAL PENCIL DRAWING by Erni of a naked couple under the moon--an old philosopher and his young pupil--with a dove at their feet, INSCRIBED by the artist “For John Sargent in friendship.”
