The first edition of Sir Walter Scott's historical French novel 'Quentin Durward', complete in three volumes. The first edition of this work. Complete in three volumes. Each volume bound with the half-title. 'Quentin Durward' is a historical novel following the story of the eponymous Scottish archer during the friend of Louis XI in France. The novel focuses on the rivalry between Louis XI and the Duke of Burgundy, Charles the Bold. Walter Scott is best known for his historical novels and poems, including 'Waverley', 'Ivanhoe', and 'The Lady of the Lake'. 'The Lay of the Last Minstrel' was the first poem of his that brought him into the spotlight of the public's eye, establishing him as one of the most popular writers of his time. Prior owner's ink inscription to the half-titles, 'Caroline J. Adey'. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, sound. Some rubbing to the boards and spines. A little loss to the head and tail of the spines, and minor bumping to the extremities. Joints are starting but firm, resulting in the spines to be lifting a little. Hinges are starting but firm. Title page of Volume II is detached but present. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with only the very occasional spot. Good Only
