London, 1908. First Edition. Hard Cover. (London and New York: Frederick Warne & Co, 1908). First UK Edition. Original illustrations by Arthur Twidle. Octavo. vi, 441 pages, [7] leaves of plates. Publisher's red bevelled cloth-covered boards with decorative art nouveau red stamped designs on the covers, a gilt-stamped title bordered by single gilt ruled lines on the spine, and a gilt stamped title in a white panel and gilt borders on the front cover. A neat former owner's name and address details stamped to the front free end-paper; slightly soft spine-tips and the red spine faded to a lighter hue. Clean internally. A nice, bright and clean VG+ copy. A nicer copy than normally seen of this early detective story. Photographs/scans available upon request
