Period Engravings. 8vo, maroon cloth with gold lettering on spine, profusely illustrated with contemporary B&W reproductions of Regency caricatures and related illustrations--many by George Cruikshank--in conjunction with radical pamphlets by William Hone, Mylar-protected pictorial and colorful dust jacket (price-clipped) depicting full color caricature of the social ladder in Great Britain, viii + 319 pages. John Edgell Rickword, MC (1898 - 1982) was an English poet, critic, journalist, and literary editor. He became one of the leading communist intellectuals active in the 1930s. He was actively associated with the Mandrake Press, and radical British writers and thinkers such as Roy Fuller, Charles Hobday, and Jack Lindsay--with whom he co-edited The Handbook of Freedom. SUPERIOR CONDITION internally & externally. VERY slight toning to endpapers.
