NY: Macmillan [1906]. 12mo, x 309pp. Blue-gray cloth pictorially stamped in red, green and white; t.e.g. 20 full-page b&w illustrations. Some rubbing to spine ends, corners and outer hinges, spine a bit darkened, rear cover has a few small bubbles to cloth and is slightly rubbed, minute traces of internal hand-soiling, else an otherwise clean, tight copy.

First edition. When their father is falsely imprisoned for spying, Roberta, Peter and Phyllis move to a new house near the railway. There they find adventures that result in proving their father's innocence and reuniting the family. One of Nesbit's most beloved books, and the basis for two films.

Synopsis

The Railway Children is a children's book by Edith Nesbit, originally serialised in The London Magazine during 1905 and first published in book form in 1906. It tells the tale of children whose father is mysteriously taken away one night and they move with their mother to live in the country, where the railway and those who work and travel on it become the center of their lives.
