New York: Lee Furman, Inc, 1936. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition. 319 pp. Maroon pebbled cloth decorated in yellow. Near Fine in basically Very Good unclipped dust jacket with vertical creases in front, side, and rear panel; chipping at head and along top of back panel, which is also rubbed. Light wear to tips, offsetting to endpapers.
A novel of rural North Carolina labeled "Not for the squeamish" by Kirkus Reviews. It was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, and was rediscovered and reprinted in the great Lost American Fiction series over four decades later. The author's first novel, scarce in its original jacket.
