Christchurch, New Zealand: Pegasus. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. (1969). First Edition. Hardcover. No signatures. Moderate foxing to top page edges. Some foxing to endpapers. Heavy fading to the purple coloured "rainbird" in the upper part of the dust-jacket spine. No tears to dust-jacket. Dust-jacket protected in archival mylar cover. ; First New Zealand edition (previously published in the UK by W. H. Allen). 206 pages. Mauve-grey boards with gilt lettering on spine. Page dimensions: 197 x 125mm. This copy has loosely included a "Review Copy" slip from the Pegasus Press, which includes the details of the New Zealand retail price and publication date ("20 February 1969"). "The Rainbirds" is a novel Frame wrote while she held the Robert Burns Fellowship at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. The first edition was the UK edition. It was later published by her American publisher George Braziller with her preferred title "Yellow Flowers in the Antipodean Room". "Dark stocky macrocarpa trees, one with a swing suspended from it, were grouped about the entrance. The ground was littered with the sharp nuts; a bluegum smell filled the air." - page 146. ; 8vo .
