cloth on front cover half missing, tight, pencil notes on blank pages, internally very good. Philadelphia: Association of Friends for the Diffusion of Knowledge (Smith I:847 - doubtful whether a Friend) He was a medical doctor who gave up his practice to teach anatomy and physiology. His memoirs show the strength of his conversion to Christianity. His "Rambles" include observations on crabs (from the Chesapeake as well as the West Indian land crab) and crows, as well as other aspects of nature. Smith I:847. Large section of cloth torn off front of cover. Covers and spine worn with small holes. Gold lettering on worn spine. Note and bio of author written on endpaper. Pages very good. . Good. unknown. First edition. 1859.
