About This Item
In 1960, Stanley Davidson was convicted of four offenses of housebreaking and larceny and sentenced to four years in prison at Durham Prison. His case came to the attention of the Queen’s staff who brought it to her attention. She decided to remit a the sentence and release him from custody. In doing so, she says she will “extend her Grace and Mercy.”
Document signed, London, July 3, 1961, being a pardon for Davidson, and ordering the governor of the prison to “discharge him out of custody accordingly.” This is the only pardon signed by Elizabeth that we have had.
