London: Printed and published by J. F. Dove, 1827. 214pp, [2]. With an engraved frontispiece, and additional engraved title page, and a final leaf of publisher's advertisements. Contemporary green calf, tooled in gilt and blind, contrasting red morocco lettering-piece, marbled edges. Lightly rubbed and marked, spine sunned. Marbled endpapers, near contemporary inked gift inscription to recto of front blank fly-leaf, scattered spotting. A handsome late Georgian edition of Samuel Johnson's (1709-1784) didactic romance, first published 1759; together with Ellis Cornelia Knight’s (1737-1836) popular continuation of the novel, first printed in 1790. . 12mo.
