Each volume with half-title giving the specific content for the volume, thus: v. 1. Arithmetical and mechanical experiments -- v. 2. Experiments in optics, chromatics and acoustics -- v. 3. Electrical and magnetical experiments -- v. 4. Experiments in pneumatics, hydrology, and pyrotechnics, with an appendix of miscellaneous recreations. The first volume including a large section devoted to "recreations" utilizing playing cards.
