About This Item

Flagstaff, Arizona: Northland Publishing, 1990. BL2 - A hardcover book SIGNED by R.C. Gorman on the half-title page in good condition in fair dust jacket that is mylar protected. Dust jacket has over an inch tear with chipping on the front bottom left corner, wrinkling, chipping, crease and some small tears on the edges and corners, scattered scartches, rubbing, scuffing and stains, light soiled patch on the back bottom, light tanning and shelf wear. Book has some bumped corners, fading on the cover edges, less than 3" high soiled patch on the back bottom and front bottom right corner, some light stains on the page edges, patch rubbed on the top right corner of the front free endapper, some scattered light wrinkling patches, light tanning and shelf wear. Foreword by R.C. Gorman. 12.25"x9.25", 194 pages. Satisfaction Guaranteed. In this retrospective, major pieces from three previously published works - R.C. Gorman: The Lithographs, R.C. Gorman: The Posters, and R.C. Gorman: The Drawings - demonstrate the development and focus of almost three decades (1952 to 1981) of one of America's most recognized artists. R.C. Gorman's art stems from his environment, culture, imagination, emotions: the shapes, colors, and inspirations provided by his Navajo heritage and Southwestern home are clearly discernable in the sketches, drawings, lithographs, and posters reproduced here. "The Picasso of Indian Artists," as he is sometimes called, Gorman has become most widely known for his portraits of Navajo women and for his economy of line and use of color. These images are, of course, included. However, the not-as-well-known work focusing on ceremonial masks and geometric rug designs is also included and adds further dimension to that which is popularly considered to be "typically Gorman.". Signed. Hardcover. Good/Fair. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
