Paris,: J.B. Baillière,, 1899.. xviii, 471 pp. 8vo (16 x 23,5 cm.). Contemporary half cloth, spine gilt lettered (spine faded, top & bottom sligthly worn for about 2 cm.; corners slightly bumped, but a overall very good copy). With a fine portrait in heliogravure by Dujardin. The standard work on this great French surgeon and his time, who was the first to recognize the process of metastasis, described for the first time invasion of veins by cancer. In 1825 he introduced vagical hysterectomy in France.
