First Edition of this comprehensive treatise on the military system and tactics of the Romans. Although it was composed by French classical scholar Claude Saumaise (Salmasius) at the request of Prince Frederick of Nassau, to whom the work is dedicated, shortly after his removal to Holland, it was not published until four years after Saumaise’s death.
