He acted as Principal Private Secretary to Prime Minister William Gladstone. He was much decorated and held a number of prestigious posts which gave him access to the great and the good of his age. These recollections are extremely interesting and give much information about the Victorian age.* A NEAR VG+ text copy with some minor faults and no dust jacket.*
