VIII, 215, [1 blank] pp.First and only edition of a translation into French of three Arabic and Turkish treaties, followed by two eyewitness accounts of the author's life. The first treatise covers the rituals surrounding the pilgrimage to Mecca, including descriptions of many of the important shrines and sites within the city, the other two concern the religion, science and manners of the Arabs and Turks. The author added his own description of Chios and of the marriage of Sultana Esma with Yakub Pasha, governor of Silistria. Julien-Claude Galland, nephew of the celebrated orientalist Antoine Galland, was an interpreter in the Levant who translated many works into French.A very good copy, some leaves slightly browned.
