About This Item

London: Duckworth & Company, 1905. First edition. Cloth. Good. 8" by 5.5". Charles Livingston Bull. A First Edition of this Canadian adventure, following the experiences of the Red Fox as it learns life lessons and how to survive. This is a First Edition of the work, bound in green cloth with a fox motif to the front board in gilt. This classic novel follows the experiences of the titular Red Fox, as he explores the Canadian wilderness. Roberts presents this creature as curious and intelligent in attempt to make him more understandable to the reader and ultimately to improve humanity's relationship with wild animals. Charles George Douglas Roberts was a Canadian poet and prose writer who often explored the subject of natural history in Canada. This strong interest is evident in this work. With 48 illustrative plates throughout, including a frontispiece in colour. Lacking plate on page 91, entitled The Old Woodchuck. With a bookplate of Hugh Babington to front endpaper. Bookseller label of Roffey and Clark to front endpaper. In publisher's original cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally, generally smart with some shelf wear. Slight bumping to the extremities, mainly the spine head and tail and the front corners. The occasional mark to boards. Age toning and light offsetting to endpapers. Small tide mark to the rear endpapers. Occasional mark to endpaper, with green mark to front endpaper. Booksellers label to front paste down. Internally firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned with the occasional mark. Lacking plate on page 91. Good
