Dornford Yates was the pseudonym of the English novelist Cecil William Mercer (1885-1960). His novels and short stories were best-sellers between the First and Second World Wars. Red in the Morning was originally published in 1946, and is the seventh in the 'Chandos' thriller series. It was published in the United States under the title Were Death Denied. Many consider this work as one of his best. Cost Price was originally published in 1949, and is the eighth and last book in the 'Chandos' thriller series. It was published in the United States under the title The Laughing Bacchante. In publisher's original cloth bindings, with original unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, cloth is very bright and smart. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the occasional spot, and some offsetting to the end papers. Dust wrappers to both volumes are sunned to the spines, with a faint stain to the spines. The odd spot to the rear of the wrap of 'Red in the Morning.' Three tape repairs to the folds and head of the spine to the verso of the wrap of 'Cost Price'. Very Good Indeed
