Illustrations by Wesley Dennis. Copyright 1945 by The Viking Press (New York). First illustrated edition as stated on the copyright page, as it does NOT have a BOMC deboss dot on the back. Cardboard slipcase has heavy signs of wear, including spots, stains (including a black spot on the illustration), worn-through corners and edges, and a large crack that runs the length of the rear of the slipcase.
Beige hardcovers show some wear such as spine lean, bumped corners and spine head & tail, a spot to the rear board, light scratches, and shelfwear. Top edge shows a spot where there was excessive adhesive used on the front pastedown, which bled onto the top edge of pages. Previous owner's name on the front pastedown, there does not appear to be any other writing. While the slipcase is in poor condition, the book itself is in Very Good Plus (VG+) condition.
