The first US edition of this novel, published anonymously in the same year as the true first Edinburgh edition. By Sir Walter Scott. A historical novel following the story of Darsie Latimer, and set to start a fictional third Jacobite Rebellion. The volume includes 'Wandering Willie's Tale', a known short story frequently printed in anthologies. Complete in one volume, the original edition appeared in three. In a half calf binding over marbled boards. Externally generally sound with some shelf wear and chipping to the extremities of the boards and spine. Minor cracking to joints, both holding firm. Minor rubbing to the boards. J. B. Purvis bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to the endpapers, the pages are generally bright and clean throughout. Good
