London: William Clowes & Sons, 1894. First edition. Hardcover. Good. Small 8vo, original red cloth with gilt titles; x, [1], 236 pp. Publisher's small printed advert tipped to last page. Some stains and scuffing to covers, spine darkened, owner names to front free endpaper, else very good.

Scarce first edition of this frequently reprinted text on the art of war. Author was "Director of Military Education in India." This the copy of Charles E. G. Norton, 7th Hussars, with his autograph dated 1895 to front free endpaper. Norton was a Captain in 1895 and promoted to Major in 1903. The 7th "Queen's Own" Hussars were in service in India from 1886-1895. Bookseller's stamp "A. J. Combridge & Co., Bombay" to front fixed endpaper.
