About This Item

London: Methuen. Hardcover. 1986. 1st Edition. 8vo 262pp . Very Good in Fine DJ. Printed on a cheap grade of paper that is browning . Examines the damage the Puritans did during the Civil War, and the enormous artistic losses England suffered from their activities. They smashed stained glass, monuments, sculpture, brasses in cathedrals and churches; they destroyed organs, dispersed the choirs and their music. They sold most of Charles I' s wonderful art collections, pictures, statues, plate, gems and jewels abroad, and broke up the Coronation regalia .
