UK,8vo HB,no dw/dj,as issued,reprint.[Originally published April, 1893 in 3 vols.First re-issued in the "Silver Library" May,1895,reprinted in May,1896,then August,1898 and this edn/issue November,1901.] VG++.No owner inscrptn.Bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,publisher's original burgundy cloth boards with single line gilt border to front, bright,crisp,blocked and non-oxidised gilt lettering and 'Silver Library' logo to spine/backstrip and plain undecorated rear board also with blind blocked plain single line border without gilt decoration.With negligible shelf-wear,bumping or creasing to edges and corners - no nicks,tears or loss present,decorative endpapers ochre/white swan+ sailing ship repetative design,with 1726 worked into the illustration.Top edges trimmed and polished,fore+bottom edges deckled (untrimmed) with obvious ageing/toning and some minimal but sporadic foxing spots; contents bright,tight,clean,solid and sound - with no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners,appears unread - apart from my own collation.UK,8vo HB,reprint,1-384pp [paginated] includes Pts I+II comprising 23 and 17 chapters respectively,24 b/w illustrations throughout the text and the book - all called for and all by Bror Thure Thulstrup(?) plus [unpaginated] half-title,b/w illustrated frntis,title page, contents list/table with illustrations list/table to reverse.
An historical novel that revolves around Amory de Catinat,a Huguenot guardsman of Louis XIV,and of Amos Green,an American who comes to visit France.Major themes include Louis XIV's marriage to Madame de Maintenon,retirement from court of Madame de Montespan,the revoking of the Edict of Nantes and the subsequent emigration of the Huguenot de Catinats to America.
