About This Item
London: Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge [SPCK], 1930. Hardcover. 84p., first edition cloth boards bound in dark blue waxed fabric titling gilt in a neat OUP style (on slightly smaller scale) and plain printed dust jacket. Book itself has decidedly toned endsheets, and a former bookdealer marred the e-p with rubber-stamping revealing the dealer's increasing price-pessimism (we've erased the accompanying pencillings). Dj bears a tattered head-rim and a 1 1/2 Inch split to one joint. Good to very good copy. Author's general notion is that the "making and marring" the first colonial expeditions were due to "trade, colonising [defined as "making new homes"] and religion. "Trade carried to an extreme and allied to an attempted uniformity has been set down [by author] as the fundamental evil .." --or, a very young Chomsky, teething.
