New York & London: Longmans, Green & Co. & Edward Arnold, 1916. Sir Peter O'Brien, Bart. (1842-1914) served as Lord Chief Justice of Ireland from 1879 to 1913. He was generally known as "Peter the Packer" due to his skill as a prosecuter who could "pack" his juries. He prosecuted the Phoenix Park Murders. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition. Edited by his daughter, Hon. Georgina O'Brien. Blue cloth binding, ruled, with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 193 pages, indexed, with 12 pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. The binding is exceptionally clean and bright. There is a previous-owner bookplate on the front paste-down and a signature opposite on the FFEP. Offsets to the endpapers and to the frontis portrait from the tissue guard. Fore- and bottom edges deckled. The dustwrapper is Good only; while complete, it has some large chips; and it has separated at the folds, now held in place by the archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover.
