Land Grants of 1763. In 1763 the King had granted land to those officers who had fought during the French and Indian war l and for the following ten years they had to be subject to quit rents and the same conditions of cultivation and improvement as other lands withing the province. By 1773 they had followed the provisions of the proclamations and applied to the governments. Virginia having agreed to those within its borders had William Thompson survey the claims for patents. The survey took him into 1775 and when Thompson took the surveys for documentation it was required that he take an oath to the King. Being a patriot he refused and so the surveys were not accepted and the patents not issued. This pamphlet contains the report that the government decided not to allow their claims.
