About This Item
Washington, D.C.: United States Bureau of Labor, 1905. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition. Octavo, origiinal burgundy red cloth covered boards with blindstamp rules and gilt spine titles. 365pp. including index. The original complete official investigation of the causes and events transpiring in the silver, gold and coal mines of Colorado which consituted probably the most widespread and violent insurrections of workers (miners) against industrial owners (The Mine Owner's Association) in the history of the United States. A series of strikes and worker actions which brought you the Colorado Militia and involved a couple of infamous pitched battles and the Ludlow Massacre among others. Essential reading for Thomas Pynchon fans as the historical context of his novel "Against the Day". A very clean, tight, unmarked copy with fresh cloth and clear gilt. Fade marks and red stains to top corner edge of index and a few more pages from water, else fine. A very good plus to near fine volume. VERY SCARCE..
